SMC marketed the site jointly for The Sheffield College and Sheffield City Council. Sheffield College had relocated from Norton to other expanded sites at Hillsborough and Granville Road, leaving the Norton site surplus to requirements. In all, there were 16 bidders for the site, but it was retail use that produced the highest offers. SJS exchanged contracts in late 2015 and immediately proceeded with a planning application to secure the scheme. The sale completed in early 2017 and the scheme took around 12 months to construct.
St James Retail Park has attracted a strong lineup of retailers including:
The Norton area has been radically transformed by the St James Retail Park, the neighbouring Graves Leisure Centre and the FA Football Academy. From a rather run down site, three superb schemes have emerged. SMC is proud to have played its part in the process.
